Northern Serengeti is a long-distance field route, not a crossing guarantee. Lobo’s kopjes and woodland change the habitat before Kogatende reaches Mara River country; the authorized western line through Ikoma country provides a different return toward the central park.
River crossings are unpredictable wild events and should never be manufactured by crowding, blocking or pressuring herds. The route is worthwhile for northern landscapes and resident wildlife even when no crossing occurs. Camps, track reports, fuel and daily daylight margins must be fixed before leaving Seronera.

Ikoma is a small community on the western side of the Serengeti ecosystem and a practical gateway between the national park, community lands and the Lake Victoria corridor. The stop gives the route a lived-in landscape beyond lodge compounds and wildlife-viewing tracks.
